Goal setting seems easy. All you have to do is to say, "I am going to ...."
The problems arise when we actually try to achieve the goal. That's when the details and the problems and the need to make decisions arise to swamp us and overwhelm us.
How can we get control over those details and problems and decisions?
It all starts at the root: with goal setting.
A goal that is hasty or not thought out will be next to impossible to plan.
In other words, you need a goal that has these three characteristics:
You can reach a goal, but not a fantasy.
If it is a true goal, you are doing things to reach it, and you have an idea of when you'll get there.
If it is a fantasy, you are dreaming, but not doing, and you have no idea of the timing.
If your goal is a fantasy, let us show you how to turn it into a goal.
What's the right goal?
It's one that gives clear answers to these questions:
What is your purpose? Why do you want to achieve this goal?
What is your goal specifically? Not, "I want to start my own business," but "I am going to start a business customizing motorcycles."
How will you know when you have succeeded? What are your measures of success?
Can you do it? Do you have the skills, tools, money, resources, and persistence to make it happen?
Will this goal satisfy the purpose that you gave in the first question? For example:
Do you have experience with this goal or is it a romanticized notion?
Will this goal lock you into work you don't enjoy?
Will this goal require you to do things you find distasteful or dubious?
Will this goal produce something that enriches you?
Is there another, better way to achieve your purpose?
Are you overwhelmed by the details? Let us show you how to get absolutely clear on your goal and on the things you'll need to do to get there.
Let us help you create clarity.
In The Systematic Goal, we'll guide you as you build a solid foundation for your goal.
